Software professional, woodsman and drummer.

I'm Jamie — I've been designing and deploying code onto the web in one form or another since the late 1990's. I've had a long and varied career covering nearly all aspects of “the tech industry”. Formally trained in design process (BA, PgCert), I came into engineering through design and my innate passion for well crafted systems. At some point in the early 2000's I got tired of letting other people “make it work” and so I got into writing code. I never looked back and I became a blend of designer and developer.

I got into design and tech through being a professional drummer. In the late 1990's the band I was in needed a website and me and “my-can-do-attitude” set about learning how to do that. I couldn't even switch a computer on. I really did start from nothing. As soon as I made my first web page I was hooked. Over a quarter of a century later I'm still in awe at what's possible with tech and the potential of humans.

In 2010 I set about getting a PGCE in adult learning after being an “informal teacher” for a number of years. Just like design process, teaching is a “super power” especially for someone like myself whose primary language of appreciation is service. To me, helping others reach their potential is the most valuable thing I can do as a human.

I'm not special, but in my own way I do put something unique on any table I sit at. I deeply understand technology, design, teaching and my own ability to learn and execute. I suspect this is why I gravitate into leadership roles, I literally cannot help myself help others win.
