Trees: 3-30-300

A recent study coined the phrase 3-30-300

The 3-30-300 test came out of a study with a rather snappy title of “Evidence-based guidelines for greener, healthier, more resilient neighbourhoods: Introducing the 3–30–300 rule ”. In short, no matter where you are, you should always be able to see, three trees, be in a neighbourhood with 30% tree cover, and be within 300 metres of a park.

It popped up on Hacker News and someone requested a photo of a place that passed the test. So here it is.

I live in the North of England in a pretty low income area. But, I’m lucky enough to live in a place that passes that rule.

Front of house view

Note: there’s a lot of cars. We have two and nearly all of our neighbours have two.

Back of house view

Obviously, I prefer the view from the back. We also have red squirrels. Bonus points if you can find the cat.

Does your neighbourhood pass the rule?
